Stay in a luxurious hotel in the charming Saint-Rémy-de-Provence on this single-centre cycling holiday. On this holiday, you’ll get to know the region intimately, as you cycle as much or as little as you like. On a single-centre tour, stay in one hotel in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and venture out each day to explore the surrounding areas. This is the same town where Van Gogh found inspiration for some of his most famous works of art, and we think you’ll be equally inspired here. On a Wednesday morning, the town hosts the largest weekly market in Provence, with regional specialities and beautiful crafts on offer.
The surrounding region is filled with olive groves filled with the symphony of cicadas, lavender fields wafting aromas through each breeze, and charming towns full of intrigue. On this 4-night tour, you have the option to ride out to exciting locations such as Les Baux-de-Provence, Eygalières, Tarascon and many more.
Cycling up to the breathtaking Les Baux-de-Provence, wandering through its cobbled streets and visiting the many aroma shops selling lavender products.
Day 1 | Arrive at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence
Arrive at your hotel and enjoy a stroll around the charming town. There are many museums and even some ROman ruins just to the south for you to explore.
Optional Ride 1 | Round Trip: Les Baux-de-Provence | Distance: 26.5 miles (42.7km)
You’ll leave Saint-Rémy-de-Provence following the Eurovelo cycle path before riding through the village of charming Fontvieille. Continue riding on to Mausanne-les-Alpilles, a good spot for a bite to eat or a coffee before you take on the only climb of the route. The reward is at the top of the climb, which finishes in one of Provence’s most spectacular hilltop villages, an ancient citadel perched in a unique rocky landscape with simply breathtaking views. From Les Baux-de-Provence enjoy some lunch and a glorious, winding descent back down to your hotel in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
There is a longer option for this round trip available on request.
Optional Ride 2 | Round Trip: Eygalières, Mollégès and Orgon | Distance: 31 miles (50.1km)
We have a couple of options for today’s ride. Both take you east of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, with one a little over 30 km long and the other a little over 50 km.
The shorter of the two routes takes you out first to Eygalières, one of the most typically Provençal villages imaginable and a great place to stop and take in some stunning views of the Alpilles. On a Friday morning, the weekly market is a must-visit here. Continuing on, you turn north towards Molléges where the Bistro Chez Ju is a good place for a bite to eat, before an easy spin back to Saint- Rémy -de-Provence along the Eurovelo cycle path.
The longer option sees you continue initially along the Eurovelo cycle path through Mollèges, before looping south down through Orgon and then on to Eygalières, which is your best bet for lunch, with several cafés and bistros in the centre of the village. From here you roll back into Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
There is a shorter option for this round trip available on request.
Optional Ride 3 | Round Trip: Beaucaire and Tarascon | Distance: 24.2 miles (38.9km)
If you’d prefer a shorter, flatter ride then our ride to the towns of Beaucaire and Tarascon is a great option. You follow the Eurovelo cycle path all the way to these two towns set on either side of the Rhône River.
We’d highly recommend stopping off for lunch in Beaucaire or Tarascon down by the river and visiting the beautiful medieval castle in Tarascon before returning back to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence along the Eurovelo path and soaking up this beautiful town of narrow streets and historical buildings.
Day 5| We say au revoir as you head home
The Hotel Gounod is an eccentrically decorated hotel in St-Remy-de-Provence. Expect decor flared with a touch of madness, in this stylish accommodation. The swimming pool is especially appreciated in the summer months.
A luxury hotel in St-Remy-de-Provence, the Vallon de Valrugues & Spa is located near the centre of the town. Next to the Alpilles Natural Park, expect glorious views of the vista. The hotel also boasts a delicious gourmet restaurant where culinary delights await you on the beautiful terrace in the shade of the mulberry trees. The hotel bar can also serve you delicious evening cocktails around the swimming pool as you relax in luxury.
The Hôtel de l’Image, originally an 18th century municipal building has a formal exterior and a stylish, modern interior. Behind the main building there is a lovely garden with a swimming pool and fabulous views of the Alpilles hills in the distance. Walk out the main door, cross the boulevard and you are immediately in the old town. The hotel's restaurant, Les Terrasses de l'Image offers seasonal meals served on the shaded terrace or in the hotel's dining room.
