There are stunning Gothic and neoclassical buildings including the Grosse Cloche, Palais Rohan and Bordeaux National Opera, as well as the modern masterpiece, the Cité du Vin museum, with it's aluminium exteriors that mirror a swirling wine glass.
Oenophiles can cycle between vineyards, tasting world class red wine in Saint-Émilion, sweet white wine in Sauternes and dry white wines in Entre Deux Mers. The best time to visit the wineries are between the months of May to early September, before the Autumn harvest. Pair a visit to the vineyards with a trip to Arcachon, famous for its oyster production on your bike tour. The oysters are perfectly complemented with a Sauvignon Blanc from the Bordeaux region.

Renowned for its fine wines and known as the wine capital of the world, the region has 7,000 wineries with 90% of them producing a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The region does also produce both sweet and dry white wine, albeit in smaller quantities.
Once a popular beachside retreat for wealthy Parisians in the 19th and 20th centuries, cycle along Arcachon’s bay where the 26 oyster farms produce 10,000 tonnes of oysters each year. Then pick up picnic supplies at the morning market each Tuesday to Friday in Place Abel Surchamp and Rue Montesquieu.
