Extraordinary chateaus, vineyards, and towns are all easy to visit en route, and the hotels we stayed in were comfy. Just a lovely holiday, and the kids really enjoyed it too.

We had a great time in an area of France we did not know at all. Cycling through the vineyards is quite something and I picked up a Grand Cru Reisling for 10 euros at a producer we called in at. The instructions were easy to follow and when we had an issue (puncture) the guys came out and fixed it.

Arriving in Venice by bike/barge was a truly memorable experience. We also enjoyed an unhurried cycle on quiet roads through nature reserves where we were fortunate to see many flamingos. The food and drink provided on the Ave Maria barge was of extremely high quality with a variety of breakfast on offer and the most delicious 3-course meals each night.

Classic | Leisurely Cycling in Champagne

We all just loved the trip in its entirety. Champagne tastings on final legs (Collery at Ay will be rooted in my memory now forever), the greenness of Marne in spring and grand cru vines in every direction. Day 3 ( round trip) was stunningly beautiful.
