Your Cycling Holidays in Provence

E-Bike | Provençal Discovery | Self Guided

Day 1 | Arrive at Marseille or Avignon and head to your hotel in St-Rémy-de-Provence

Explore the streets of this classy town and perhaps take a stroll to the nearby mausoleum where Vincent Van Gogh spent his later years, producing some of his most revered work.

Day 2 | St-Rémy-de-Provence to Roussillon | Distance 41 miles (67km)

Todays ride starts out with an easy jaunt as you head east and pass through the market town of Cavaillon, famous for delicious melons. From here you skirt the southern edge of the Luberon valley, taking in the picturesque hilltop villages of Menerbes, Lacoste and Bonnieux. After Bonnieux, you drop back into the valley, across the roman bridge of Pont Julien and up, through ochre and lavender, to Roussillon.

Approx. riding time: 4 hours

Day 3 | Roussillon to Mazan | Distance 23 miles (37km)

Many people choose to spend a day off the bike in Roussillon, to explore the ochre cliffs and lavender fields on foot. For those looking to cycle, we propose a ride out east taking you past ochre mines and through quaint villages. The route skirts the town of Apt, one of the Luberon’s main settlements, where you can easily take a short detour to explore all it has to offer as a “town of wonderful tastes”.

Approx. riding time: 3 hours

Day 4 | Mazan to St-Rémy-de-Provence | Distance 45 miles (72.4km)

The route turns back south today and winds through the towns of Pernes-les-Fontaines, l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in the first half of the day. All three of these places are worth a visit due to their connection to water. Pernes-les-Fontaines is home to over 40 ornate water fountains, l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is criss-crossed by waterways like a miniature Venice and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse hosts one of Europe’s biggest freshwater springs. We recommend stopping for lunch next to the emerald green water at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, before continuing to Cavaillon and back to St-Rémy for the last night of your tour.

Approx. riding time: 4.5 hours

Day 5 | We say au revoir

Day 2 | Optional Round Trip to Baux-de-Provence & Eygalieres | Distance 40 miles (64km)

Your first day on the bike starts with a stunning ride up to Baux de Provence, a picturesque hilltop fort and a great vantage point over the Rhone valley. You descend the other side and head out on a loop around some typical Provencal countryside, covered with olive groves and garrigue to the gorgeous village of Eygalieres. From here you return to St-Rémy via the Roman ruins at Glanum. There are lots of options to shorten the route too.

Approx riding time: 4 hours (full route)

From here you pass the famous lavender fields of the Abbey of Senanque, before your e-bike will help you glide up a small col and onwards to Venasque and ultimately Mazan.

Approx. riding time: 3 hours

Day 6 | Optional Round Trip: Bedoin and Malaucène | Distance 27 miles (44km)

If the hotel's enticing garden and swimming pool, not to mention the wine cellar, don’t tempt you into a rest day, then a round trip ride to two gorgeous towns is recommended. Bedoin and Malaucène are both famed in cycling lore as the start of 2 routes up the famed and feared Mont Ventoux climb, often tackled in the Tour de France. They both are full of cafes and boutiques and have a buzz throughout the summer as cyclists pass through in droves.

  • Chateau de Mazan

    4 star

A beautiful 4-star property in the heart of Mazan. The building was formerly the home of the Marquis de Sade and has a grandeur befitting of his reputation. A gastronomic restaurant serves brilliant meals indoors or on the terrace and the well-stocked wine cellar will provide the perfect accompaniment to your food. The large garden area is home to an outdoor pool.

  • Hotel Gounod

    3 star

A relaxing hotel with quirky, stylish décor and rooms complete with free WiFi and satellite TV. The terrace and outdoor pool are beautiful spots to recharge after a day on the bike and the town's many bars and restaurants are just a short walk away.

  • Hotel Omma

    4 star

With fabulous panoramic views of Provence, the Hotel Omma sits at the heart of Roussillon and has a modern, contemporary style with a French twist. The in-house restaurant cooks up fine, classically French cuisine every evening and the staff are warm and welcoming. We recommend dining outside either underneath the gorgeous sweet-smelling Wisteria or looking out over the beautiful Provençal countryside. The rooms are light and airy with rustic French charm.
