Burgundy Bike Tours

What to Expect on a Burgundy Bike Tour?

Explore Burgundy by bike with us this summer in this idyllic area of France. Renowned for its fine wine, Burgundy’s countryside is dotted with vineyards, mustard fields and medieval villages. The towns in Burgundy have an eclectic mix of Renaissance, Middle Ages, Gallo-Roman and Celtic antiquity architectural styles. It's the perfect destination to explore by bike on one of our cycling holidays. Cycle along country roads between fantastic restaurants, stunning architecture and world-class wineries.

Wake up to views over the Côte de Nuits vines at Castel de Très Girard, where the wine is thought to have been produced for over a thousand years. If that doesn’t cut the mustard, then try to keep a straight face at a tasting at the Edmond Fallot Moutarderie.

Beaune

This walled wine-making town is thriving thanks to its wine tourism, which you can learn about at the Maison des Climats. Then, taste two of the best Grand Crus in Burgundy at Aloxe Corton Corton red and Corton-Charlemagne white. Once a medieval charity hospital, the magnificent Hôtel-Dieu is a fine example of 15th-century Burgundian architecture. Built in 1340 for the Duke of Eudes, Château de Savigny-les-Beaune has a wide collection of vintage airplanes, cars and motorbikes.

Puligny Montrachet

South of Beaune, Puligny Montrachet is a well-known Burgundy appellation wine. Cycle along the Voie Verte route, known as the Burgundy Vineyard Way, pausing along the way at local winemaker’s cellars and for local gastronomy. Pedal to the nearby town of Meursault where the old Roman Fort remains are still visible above the village. A former 14th-century feudal château, the town hall’s roof has the typically colourful Bordeaux roof with a water fountain spouting in the foreground.

When to visit

Our cycling tours run between April and October, which tend to be warmer and drier. Burgundy has a mild climate and temperatures vary between 8-22°, at its highest in July and August.

Burgundy cuisine

Burgundy’s signature dish is beef bourguignon braised in local red wine. Another wine-soaked dish, coq au vin is chicken also braised in red Burgundy. A local delicacy, escargots à la Bourgogne are oven-cooked snails left in their shell and filled with butter, garlic and parsley. For dessert, blackcurrants tend to be a main feature throughout the region. Variations include blackcurrant sorbet, crème de cassis and the popular Kir cocktail. A celebrated local cheese, epoisses goes well with a white Chablis.
