Day 2 | Optional Round Trip: Bourton-on-the-Water and Lower Slaughter - Distance: 38 mi/62km
Our destination mangers will call by after breakfast to handover our excellent E-bikes and talk you through the details of your cycling tour. After this, it is time to get in the saddle and set off to explore the glorious countryside and impossibly quaint villages that this part of England is famed for. Our first recommended ride takes you to some of the region's most famous villages. Start the ride by heading north to Burford, on the banks of the River Windrush. You will follow the river to begin with, hopping from village to village, before approaching Bourton on the Water and then Lower Slaughter. These two villages are arguably the two finest examples of what makes the Cotswolds just so special and we highly recommend locking up your bikes for a while to explore and enjoy them. When it’s time to head back, you’ll follow a route through yet more scenic villages and countryside all the way to the welcoming gates of Barnsley House.
Approx. riding time: 3.5 hours
Day 3 | Optional Round Trip: The River Coln and Cirencester - Distance: 38 mi/62km
For those staying with us for three nights, we have another great ride for you to enjoy today. Saddle up and cruise out of Barnsley, heading eastwards along small country roads through the verdant landscape until you reach the banks of the River Coln. Follow the river as it twists through a number of gorgeous villages, including Coln St Aldwyns and Bibury where you’ll find authentic Cotswolds charm in abundance. The route then takes you south to the Roman market town of Cirencester, home to a host of interesting historical sites and a selection of cafes, restaurants and shops for you to enjoy whilst taking a break. The last leg of the ride takes you back to Barnsley House.
