There’s nothing quite like it: after a day’s cycling (and positively exhausting wine and food sampling), sinking into a luxurious bed in a glorious location that seems to have waltzed straight out of a movie scene.
Those who cycle as Softies deserve to sleep like kings and queens, and there's plenty of opportunity for that on our tours.
Did you know that some of our beautiful, romantic hotels, villas and châteaux count royalty and aristocracy among their previous tenants? From secluded villas nestled in peaceful towns with a relaxed pace of life, to proud castles boasting their own stunning grounds without a neighbour in sight, we have some truly special residences for you to experience.
France’s romantic scenery is the perfect backdrop to some of our most delightful accommodation, spanning grand castles looming high over vineyards to quaint châteaux in the hills. Château de Marçay in the Loire, built on the grounds of an 11th-century fortress, is now a popular hotel on our cycling tours.
Forget battlements and weapon rooms though, the interior is spacious, chic and stylish and the acres of grounds house an outdoor pool as well as a spa. Complete the experience by seeing, and sampling, the establishment’s 12,000-bottle wine cellar.
In the Côtes du Rhône, the turreted castle of Hostellerie de Château de Fines Roches was frequented by many Provencal poets, attracted by its romantic architecture and stunning surrounding landscapes, topped off with the peace and quiet of the vast plains.
On a cycling tour through Provence, don't miss out on the gorgeous Le Château Des Alpilles, nestled in a grove of old cypress trees and set in tranquil gardens. Dream of its romantic history while enjoying the modern comforts of the heated pool and five-star dining in the restaurant.
Cycling through Italy feels like a trip into a fairy tale. With a backdrop straight off a postcard and scenes worthy of film sets, you’ll want to embrace the romance in some of our hidden gem hotels here. The La Locanda Del Capitano, nestled away in the walled village of Montone, features on our e-bike tour through Tuscany. Drink in the delights (and the wine) and experience luxury cuisine, with celebrity Chef Giancarlo Polito at the helm of the restaurant here.
From farms to castles, there are some truly enchanting escapes to try when touring the Chianti Hills and Tuscany. Hotel Villa del Capitano is one of our favourites. The effect of a modern designer hotel, hidden with a Renaissance villa, makes it all the more magical, complete with the hot tub, roof terrace and impeccable art collection inside.
Villa Monte Solare, featured in our Tuscany and Umbria tour, was originally home to 18th-century aristocrats, and still keeps its antique, original décor. Some not-so-original, but nevertheless attractive, features include the deluxe spa and wellness facility, heated outdoor swimming pool and tennis court.Back To Blog
