Best restaurants in Provence
Eating out in a nice restaurant is practically the essence of a good French holiday. Our blog post explores the three best restaurants in Provence.Read more
Nothing works up an appetite quite like the fresh air. If you're exploring the wonderful twists of country lanes in Tuscany, or the panoramic peaks and meadows of Provence, you're in luck: there's a whole gastronomic landscape to treasure as well. Here are four eateries on our cycling tours that we especially love.
L’Aile ou la Cuisse – Provence, France
The cuisine of Provence is almost as famous as its crisp and refreshing wines. As you cruise through the purple-soaked fields, and take in the sweet, lavender-scented air on our Picture Postcard Provence tour, you'll also have the chance to tantalize your taste buds at one of our favourite restaurants in the region.
L’Aile ou la Cuisse is tucked along Rue de la Commune in the tour's starting city of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Here you can dive into the delights of intensely rich dishes like a foie gras starter, or a carefully roasted sea bream main. Don't miss the exquisitely crumbly, sweet delights of the 'Pâtisserie de la vitrine' pastry selection either.
Côté Cour – Loire, France
Our Châteaux of the Loire tour takes you to elegant palaces, like Château du Rivau, and delightfully rustic towns, including Saumur. There are some great places to relax over a cool glass of wine, and hearty, local speciality after a day of riding. At the base of the majestic Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, moments from the gentle shimmer of the river L'indre, you'll find one of our top choices: Côté Cour.
This restaurant's rustic charm is matched only by the perfectly placed terrace, which gives you a lovely view of the castle. Simple but flavour-packed dishes like silky poached eggs with truffle oil are this restaurant's forte. If you're feeling like really treating yourself, then the tender veal and fresh vegetable fricassee come highly recommended.
La Locanda Del Capitano – Tuscany, Italy
The lush rolling hills dotted with vineyards and evergreens – all ready for you to discover on our Treasures of Tuscany and Umbria tour – make for a seminal setting, both on and off the saddle. Tucked away in the pastoral paradise of Montone is La Locanda Del Capitano, our top choice for delving into delicious Tuscan gastronomy.
You can expect clever, tasty twists on the Italian classics here. The orange ravioli with duck ragout is fresh and deep in taste, and the heady, sweet hit you'll get from the coffee, saffron and raspberry semifreddo will leave a lasting impression too. The restaurant has its very own celebrity chef at the helm (Giancarlo Polito), and an impressive wine cellar – choose from over 400 regional and national wines to accompany your meal.
L'Abricotier – Bordeaux, France
Our Wines, Vines, and Sunshine in Bordeaux tour is set in another of France's renowned wine-producing regions, and will take you through some of the most enchanting historic villages (like Duras), verdant vineyards and relaxing routes in the area. L'Abricotier's elegant setting is ideal for a laid-back lunch or evening indulgence.
The succulent seasonal menu features everything from fresh fish to crunchy salads. Don't miss the succulent duck and girolle mushrooms in Bordeaux wine – best enjoyed on the lush garden terrace, if possible.Back To Blog
