Cycling holidays aren’t just for grown-ups. We all know how hard it is to steal time away from your loved ones, so why not get the best of both worlds and take the whole family with you on your next trip?
Our family cycle paths are suitable for all ages, from children up to the elderly. They are all relatively flat and easy routes that take in some of the quieter roads on offer. At Cycling for Softies, we encourage taking in the sights and making memories, not Strava stats. We have three tours available for families, all residing in Loire.
Located in central France, the Loire Valley is well known for its stunning architecture and abundant vineyards. Our Châteaux of the Loire tour is a 4-7 night trip that features gentle rides of between 13 and 23 miles, suitable for cycling with children. There are plenty of opportunities to stop and see the sights. In particular, the 12th-century fortresses scattered along the Vienne River. Beginning and ending in Chinon, this route is a circular exploration of some of the valley's finest offerings.
Our Château de Candes tour gives you and your family the freedom to structure your own holiday. Ride as little or as much as you please from your base in Cândes-Saint-Martin. With plenty of activities to choose from you’ll be able to please the whole family. Consider cycling around the bustling city of Saumur, taking time to explore the wine cellars and the historic château. The Loire itself is accompanied by gentle family cycle paths along the Loire a Vélo. If you’re after a shorter route, consider cycling with children to the local Eco Museum. It features an onsite farm where the young locals are taught how to care for livestock, and they're open to visitors who want to say hello to the farm animals.
Our final tour in the Loire Valley is the Marine de Loire, which is located in the heart of Montsoreau, a small village famed as one of the most beautiful in France. Another single base tour, take the opportunity to explore the local areas along the suitable family cycle paths, keeping you active throughout your holiday as you explore the region. With abbeys and fortresses galore there is plenty to see and do, whether you ride along the Loire a Vélo, or take a canoe along the banks of Chinon and Saumur.
At Cycling for Softies we can provide suitable children’s bikes for these tours, including child bikes, tow-bikes and child seats. We want to cater for all abilities and plans so can tailor your tour specifically to your needs, whether you’re joining us as a family or not.
And it's not just about the cycling on these holidays, there are plenty of other activities we can recommend depending on your tour. Canoeing, picnics, wine tasting (for the parents, of course), sampling the local cuisine, and so much more.
