Read moreOur Alsace bike tours journey through some of the most beautiful towns and vineyards. The historical region of Alsace in north eastern France sits on the Rhine River plain, making it fertile land for wine production. Across the region are quaint medieval villages made up of colourful half-timbered houses and with German and Swiss influences. Originally houses were painted according to the shop below, nowadays owners can choose, which has led to Alsace’s multicoloured streets with criss-cross patterns.
The capital of the region, Strasbourg, was a point along the important trading route down the Rhine. Due to the strong economic background, it is one of France’s most beautiful cities. As you wander the streets of Petit France and pedal along the banks of the River III, you can get a real feel for the city. Remember our cycling holidays are ABTA and ATOL protected.

In the beating heart of the city is Strasbourg’s magnificent Gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral. Every day at solar noon the life-size cock crows three times during a procession. Climb the stairs to the platform where you can see Germany’s Black Forest. On the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains, pedal along the Bruche canals and enjoy wine tastings in local restaurants. From here, cycle to the romantic town of Colmar where you can weave down the canals of Little Venice. Both sides of the canal have typical Alsatian architecture with vibrant coloured flower baskets.
The Alsace Route Du Vin is France’s oldest wine route and has a fantastic number of superb vineyards to visit. Running from north to south through Alsace, you can take this at your own pace whilst stopping off at delightful spots. The scenery is picturesque in one of France’s most peaceful areas.
Our cycling tours run between April and October, which tend to be the drier and warmer months. Alsace has a mild climate and temperatures are on average between 10-26°, at its highest in July and August.
Enjoy some superb food and wine on our Alsace bike tours. Famous for its Rieslings as well as its Kronenbourg and Meteor beers, both accompany the traditional choucroute à L’Alsacienne dish. Another local favourite is Flammekueche made with sour cream, mushrooms and local ham. Besides Riesling, Alsace produces a variety of whites including Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Crémant d’Alsace. There is no better place to taste these whites than in a traditionally Alsatian winstub.
Enjoy cycling along pretty lanes that meander from one vineyard to another, taking in some of the most exceptional gastronomy in all of France.
Alsace is a fantastic place to cycle. The Route Du Vin is great for cycling, with many vineyards to visit along the way. The cycle lanes take you through medieval villages and beautiful cities.

There were so many highlights but Alsace itself is the true star. Beautiful scenery, gorgeous villages, excellent coffee and pastries, very safe and relaxed cycling, and delicious wine.

We had a great time in an area of France we did not know at all. Cycling through the vineyards is quite something and I picked up a Grand Cru Reisling for 10 euros at a producer we called in at. The instructions were easy to follow and when we had an issue (puncture) the guys came out and fixed it.
