"We celebrated our joint 59th Birthday in the middle of this holiday at Viens with 25 of our friends who joined from all over the world. It was great to arrive and leave on bikes, while the others came by car."

Cycling Holidays in Provence & Luberon

  • HOT, hot, hot, sizzling sun
  • Sitting in the shade of a cafe parasol watching the world go by
  • Van Gogh painted his irises when staying in a sanatorium in St Remy de Provence. The irises still grow in profusion
  • Fontaine de Vaucluse and the source of the river Sorgue where Jacques Cousteau discovered the snow of the Alpes spilled into Provence
  • Canoeing down the river Gardon under the Pont du Gard
  • Summer festivals and the Camargue bulls running through the towns
  • Perfect for long lunch breaks in village cafes

Our holidays start and finish at Hotel l’Atelier de l’Image **** in St Remy de Provence. Our regional hotels are *** and ****. This is a good region for hotel pools and has two Michelin starred restaurants. Or stay as a Super Softie in the Hotel Charembeau ***at Forcalquier with daily routes into the Lurs Mountain.

You'll pedal along the Luberon cycle trail passing through historic hilltop villages. The cycling on the plain is easy but hilly in the Luberon. This region is perfect for long lunch breaks in village cafes followed by a snooze in the shade.

Places to visit:

Palace of the Popes in Avignon. Roman history and Roman ruins means amphitheatres at Nimes, Arles and Orange, the majestic Pont du Gard and best of all, Glanum in St Remy de Provence. Les Baux, a medieval hilltop village. Famous Sunday market at Isle sur la Sorgue which spreads all over the town.
