Our children were completely taken by them - we went back in the afternoon to play with them - the family were so welcoming, we nearly bought one to take home with us. ”

“We liked the fact that the countryside is 'rolling', unspoilt and non-touristy. We had picnics of smoked salmon, baguette, lemon, black pepper and mini-bottles of champagne. On a baking hot day, my friend and I travelled through village aftervillage looking for an open shop to buy water. We had run out and were gasping!! We arrived in la Bazouge-de-Ch{mer{ and I was walking up and down the street looking in shop windows (all closed) and a lady from her private house saw me and called out to me. My French is 'tres petit' but I managed to say were there any shops open. She said no and then gave me a bottle of chilled mineral water and I gave her a couple of Euros. We shook hands with much 'merci' from me. A happy ending! And they say that the French aren't friendly!! ”
