Luxury Cycling Holidays in France

Cycling for Softies - What our holidaymakers say about us in Dordogne

“An ability to eat and drink a lot without the inevitable weight gain of other holidays without exercise. Very much enjoyed the home base hotel. Madame & Monsieur Blanchet were good fun and the food was just amazing. ”
- MR & MRS KINNINMONTH 2ND HOLIDAY

“All the hotels put a great deal of effort into meeting special food needs - really exceptional and unexpected. ”
- BOB & COOKIE SHANNON 12TH HOLIDAY

“The formula we first enjoyed 15 years ago has been updated and improved so that we can still feel virtuous when we cycle and don't feel quite so guilty when we indulge in good food and wine. ”
- MR & MRS DAVIS 10TH HOLIDAY

“The following little story typifies how friendly and helpful we have found the people in France. We were within then minutes of arriving at Duras on our last day and approaching a junction when a car pulled out from a farm, overtook us and waited at the junction just ahead of us. He did not go when we expected him to. In fact, he leapt out of the car and ran towards us, speaking quickly and excitedly and waving his arms. We were non-plussed. By the time we realised that he had seen a sudden storm coming and was offering us his farm building as a shelter, both we and he were soaked, but laughing. ”
- MR & MRS CHANDLER 6TH HOLIDAY

“All went to plan - hotel good and very friendly, food and wine fantastic, bikes brand new, roads quiet and routes recommended were beautiful. For the price and the 2star rating, the equivalent in the UK is so very different. These hotels we would return to and recommend - quite excellent and very friendly. We enjoyed the independence of the holiday within the umbrella of the support network of the company should we need it. ”
- MRS FAIRWEATHER 1ST HOLIDAY

“Variation in terrain and in accommodation from the very old to the ultra modern. The holiday allowed for complete freedom and independence in choosing routes and itinerary. Assistants gave all the support we needed without interference. ”
- R & B ANKERS 1ST HOLIDAY

“Hotels offered an excellent standard of accommodation and food was plentiful and of high standard. Spacing between hotels was sufficient that a roundabout route avoiding any 'major' roads made for a good transfer. As a 'townie' we could almost not believe that roads could be as quiet as your brochure described - but they were! Once we had more or less decided the region, the office staff were informative and confirmed that we required ie easy rides/good food, was all to be had in this particular region. ”
- LINDA LANCASTER 1ST HOLIDAY

“The journey from Allemans to Gensac was the high spot; we wouldn't have missed Gensac for anything. For many miles all we met was one small van, one old lady out for a walk. Plus birds, flowers, white cows in flowery meadows with great woods behind them, plenty of cuckoos - in fact all the essential ingredients of a cycling for softies holiday. I'm happy to say that the possible disadvantages of increasing age seems to be far outweighed by the benefits of greater experience. ”
- MRS M MISCAMPBELL 8TH HOLIDAY

“Found your booklet really helpful - never put it down, used it as our guide the whole week. ”
- MR & MRS PRESTWICH 3RD HOLIDAY

“Great combo of good physical exercise, beautiful scenery and tasty food. ”
- MS H RICE 2ND HOLIDAY

“The crucial aspect of this holiday is that the Susi rep should be good. On both occasions that we've been on one of these holidays, the representatives have been very helpful and welcoming. ”
- MR R JAROSSI 2ND HOLIDAY

“The holiday was everything I expected it to be and more. Food was excellent - perhaps too much! A time of family bonding, away from the pressures of the world, even though just for 9 days! Thank you to all for making this a holiday to remember. ”
- MITCHELL FAMILY 1ST HOLIDAY

“We're 'self-guided' but with the depth of local knowledge in your supporting information. ”
- MR & MRS CAREY

“The areas are well researched. The distances to be covered can be planned easily. ”
- MRS CRANLEY 3RD HOLIDAY

“We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary while on holiday with you in the Dordogne in August last year. You arranged a fabulous holiday for us with only 6 days notice and surprised us with a bottle of champagne when we arrived at Chateau Scandaillac. I surprised my wife by sending her flowers which she insisted on cycling everywhere with for the remainder of our holiday, attached to the “nosebag” of the bike!”
- Colin and Felicity Campbell

“Perfect organisation and excellent accommodation / food / hospitality / support from Assistant. Les Baudry was paradise – thought I had gone to heaven after all! It was a priviledge to stay there.”
- MR JEFFERY

“Complicated travel plans were sorted with the usual efficiency!”
- MS FRANKLIN

“The Susi formula suits not only the Pickering family but also the extended Pickering family – spouses of children now joining the time.”
- MR & MRS PICKERING

“Enjoyed the French way of life in this region and the organisation was first class.”
- MR COLQUHOUN

“There is a ‘low impact tourist’ feel good factor about a Susi holiday.”
- Did you hear the one about my husband joining the family in the dining room next to the smaller one where we were to eat? He felt so at home. I don’t know who was more surprised, the children who thought they’d gained a grandad whilst I was left won

“Les Baudry and owners – amazing job, friendly people and fortnights best meal.”
- MR CHANDLER

“ We picked a region that suited us, and the scenery and topography was as expected, but I think you underplay the lovely hotels. A little more detail about the hotels and possible routes would help 1st timers. Our last day, cycling from Chateau Pechalbet to Chateau Baaudry. We chose our route to pass through our favourite scenery of the week. We weaved through Allemans du Dropt (for coffee) and were heading for Sigoules. As we passed through Soumensac we noticed a village fair was in progress. So we stopped. It was lunchtime (well, it was always lunchtime!) and we found salads, cheeses, sausages, canard and other lovely meats, together with wines of the regions and fabulous fruit puddings – all on sale. All this, and around 250 people eating lunch al fresco, looking out over the fabulous view. We were able to share lunch in the most convivial and enjoyable surroundings. A real surprise and bonus for the day. Just typical of the benefits you can get by touring on a bike!”
- Keith Mitchell

“Absolutely gorgeous scenery and hotels, was expecting lots of large formal hotels, but remote and friendly, much better than expected . Food v. good. I’m not particularly a ‘bike person’, so slow, spent entire holiday ˝ km behind entire family, but still thoroughly enjoyable”
- Nicole Mitchell, 16
