Susi Madron's Cycling for Softies

Dear Friend

Our 2007 season has well and truly started. I have just returned from greeting my first holidaymakers in France. It has been perfect cycling weather, with warm dry days and the odd night-time downpour to keep a check on temperatures.

For this newsletter, I've chosen the Gascony as my Region du Jour. For those who are inspired to go, I would like to offer you a discount with my compliments. I have also arranged a special treat for anyone booking a Chateau Escape to the Loire.

Finally, we were thrilled to receive the following comment from our very first Chateau Escapees, Mr and Mrs Price, who visited the Dordogne: "It's very difficult to convey... the wonderful five days we enjoyed. The hotel staff and Brigitte and Jean Louis all lovely people, could not have been more attentive. Exactly what we had hoped for - very comfortable, excellent service and food. Special thanks to all staff in Manchester - you know how to organise matters so efficiently - it is a joy dealing with you all."

Bon Vacances!

Best wishes,
Susi Madron

In the spotlight - a taste of the Tarn

All for One and One for All - Gascony

I’m offering a £20 discount per person for all bookings to Gascony made during June

Much to my chagrin, I’d been running Cycling for Softies for 20 years before I discovered the delights of a little-known region called Gascony. Now it is one of my firm favourites.

Tucked into the far south-western corner of France with the mighty Pyrenees guarding its borders, Gascony was once home to D’Artagnan of the Three Musketeers. Today it is one of the least populated areas in western Europe.

Escape to sheer indulgence

Our June offer is a free full body massage for everyone booking a chateau escape to this hotel - ideal to help you relax after a morning 'big game watching'.

One of our most romantic chateaux escapes is the Chateau de Noyant in the Loire. It is a 15C fairy tale castle complete with towers and turrets.

Each spacious and comfortable bedroom is named after a famous son or daughter of the region and you’ll find rose petals scattered across your four-poster bed. You may also find your loo is in a turret or arrow slits in your wardrobe, but these add to the hotel’s charm.

Breakfast is served in a lavishly decorated dining room. Your boiled egg is protected with a silver cover until it is unveiled with a flourish.

But perhaps the chateau’s most extraordinary asset is the vast park that surrounds it. Containing a herd of deer and a family of wild boar, and if you are lucky you might see the tiger-striped young as they forage at dawn in the undergrowth. It is perfect wildlife country.

And finally...

While on my travels I picked up a fair amount of delicious local wine and other delicacies, which I would like to share with you. Please mention that you read the newsletter when you book in June and I will pop something in the post to you.
