Perfumed, sizzling and sensational.
Perfect for...people who don't do much biking,
but are tempted to explore.
A cycling idyll, far from the madding crowd, with rolling countryside covered
by vines and quilted fields of sunflowers, poppies and ancient woodland. The
silent, sun bleached villages snooze at midday, while angoulemme, jarnac and
Cognac can be busy and fun with shops and museums, a restaurant for lunch and
distilleries for cognac tasting. Wild boar cross the road and red squirrels
pick nuts in the hedgerows; quiet and immensely peaceful; you always pack a
picnic as the paucity of village bars means you need your baguette and cheese
with you. There are wildflowers everywhere and pineau for an aperitif.
Routes are Grade 1, easy cycling for much of the region but Grade 2 towards the East on the longer routes. An ideal region for families as there are pools, river swimming and canoeing.
