Elusive, evocative and romantic
Perfect for... cycling whilst conquering
the marvellous cuisine.
On a bicycle you have it all to yourself, the magical ‘Voie
Verte’ cycle
path from Givry to Macon, the Canal du Centre at Chagny and
the tiny lanes and farm tracks which criss-cross the plain of Bresse and meander
among the lakes of la Dombes. Black kites circle overhead, teaming water fowl
fill the meres. Wildflowers and butterflies cover the verges, while baskets
of geraniums decorate even the smallest farms. Tantalising smells seep from
every tiny village restaurant to whet your lunch time appetite. Where else
could you find chickens ‘appelation
controlee and 10 Grand Cru wines? A renowned region for traditional French
cuisine.
Our holidays start at the glamorous Chateau de Fleurville with its own heated pool, garden and tennis court.
The routes are Grade 1, easy cycling, on the Voie Verte Givry to Macon, and east of the river Saone with Grade 2 or 3 through the vineyards to the west of the river.
